A $1.4 million upgrade to the Alberton Railway Station building is now underway, with a completion date set for mid-2026 ahead of the station’s 170th birthday.
Alberton Railway Station is Australia’s oldest station, which was first built in 1856. The station currently services the Outer Harbor line, but the station building has been abandoned since 2019 due to age and other related damage.
The upgrades to the station building will see interior and external renovation works, including the installation of new flooring and windows, and restoration of the external façade of the building.
Electrical systems will also be replaced, and an accessible bathroom will be constructed which will continue to service the community.
During these upgrades, train services will continue to operate to and from Alberton Railway Station.
Adelaide Metro thanks you for your patience while we undertake these works.
