Paper MetroTickets have retired

20 Feb 2026

Paper MetroTickets have now officially retired, and you can no longer buy or use them on the Adelaide Metro network.

All Adelaide Metro buses, trains and tram now accept Tap and Pay, the Buy & Go app and metroCARD.

Better value, less hassle

Tap and Pay, the Buy & Go app and metroCARD provide cheaper and more convenient ways to travel, allowing you to:

  • use your debit/credit card or digital wallet to Tap and Pay for regular fares only
  • buy our full range of tickets and passes on your phone with the Buy & Go app, which you can download from the App Store or Google Play
  • manage your travel with a separate metroCARD, which you can link to an optional online account.

Paying with cash

If you prefer to pay with cash, you will need a metroCARD. You can recharge your metroCARD with cash at the Adelaide Metro InfoCentre (in the Adelaide Railway Station), most Adelaide Metro vending machines and at over 270 metroCARD retailers across SA.

Unused paper MetroTickets

If you have unused MetroTickets, you can exchange them at the Adelaide Metro InfoCentre to have them transferred to a new or existing metroCARD. New metroCARDs have a once-off fee of $3.50 for Concession and Student metroCARDs and $5.00 for a Regular metroCARD.

Registering your metroCARD for more benefits

We recommend that you register your metroCARD to keep track of your account balance and access benefits like auto recharge or transferring funds from a lost/stolen card. For more information, contact us from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm daily by calling our InfoLine on 1300 311 108 or visiting the Adelaide Metro InfoCentre.
