Travel free with a Seniors card
The South Australian Seniors Card also serves as a Seniors metroCARD, providing card holder’s public transport fare concessions, and offers free travel on all Adelaide Metro public transport services at the following times:
- Monday to Friday
- Midnight to 7.00am
- 9.01am to 3.00pm
- 7.01pm to midnight
- All day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays
At all other times a concession fare is required.

metroCARD for South Australian Seniors Card holders
The South Australian Seniors Card which displays the Adelaide Metro logo is also a metroCARD.
You can use this Seniors Card to travel on the public transport free during the free travel times.
You can also add value ($) to your Seniors Card for trips outside the free travel time. Green Seniors metroCARDs are no longer issued.
Any value ($) you add is protected if your Seniors card is lost or stolen.

Your Seniors Card privacy options
If you apply for a New Seniors Card, details held by the Seniors Card Unit which include your Name, Address, Date of Birth and Email address may be provided to us (The Department for Infrastructure and Transport, DIT). This allows us to provide you with a Seniors Card metroCARD and give you access to the full range of services relating to your travel.
You can change your privacy options at any time and anonymise your Seniors Card metroCARD, removing your Name and Address details. Please note if you choose this anonymous option we cannot give you access to the full range of metroCARD services available.

How to use your Seniors Card on public transport
Just touch your Seniors Card metroCARD to the validator when you board before 7.00am, between 9.00am and 3.00pm and after 7.00pm weekdays or all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays for a free trip.
You’ll also need to touch your Seniors Card on the gates when entering and exiting Adelaide Railway Station, Salisbury Railway Station and Noarlunga Railway Station.
Travelling outside these times
If you travel between 7.01am and 9.00am, and 3.01pm to 7.00pm weekdays if you have recharged your Seniors metroCARD then you can use the balance on your metroCARD, if you do not have metroCARD balance then MetroTickets can be purchased on board any train or tram via the Ticket Vending Machines and also on selected off board Ticket Vending Machines. You can recharge your Seniors metroCARD at the Adelaide Metro InfoCentre or at any metroCARD Agent or ticket vending machine. You can also recharge online, or over the phone. Interstate Seniors Card holders
Anyone who holds a valid Australian State or Territory Seniors Card is eligible for FREE Adelaide Metro public transport Monday to Friday before 7.00am, between 9.01am and 3.00pm, after 7.01pm and all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
Simply visit the following locations and show your interstate Seniors Card and you will be issued with a temporary MetroTicket which will be valid for a maximum of 14 days.
- Adelaide Airport’s Information Booth
- Adelaide Hills Visitor Information Centre at 68 Mount Barker Road, Hahndorf
- Adelaide Metro InfoCentre
- Glenelg Visitor Information Centre at 1 Moseley Square, Glenelg
- Visitor Information Centre at shop 9 James Place, Adelaide (just off Rundle Mall) (From 1 September 2020 onwards, 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on weekends.)
