Removal of 2-Section fares

From Sunday 7 July 2019 the 2-Section fare product will no longer be available for purchase or use on board Adelaide Metro services or from vending machines.

When validating your 2-Section metroCARD on or after 7 July 2019 a Regular fare will be deducted from your balance. The cost of these trips are:

  • Regular metroCARD peak trip lasting two hours - $3.77
  • Regular metroCARD interpeak trip lasting two hours - $2.07

If your metroCARD balance is below the Regular fare price listed above, you will need to visit an Adelaide Metro InfoCentre to have the balance transferred to a Regular fare.

What happens to my 2-Section metroCARD from Sunday 7 July?

  • All recharges will be purchased as Regular fare.
    • If you recharge via your metroCARD online account, you will need to do a one-off recharge via the InfoLine, InfoCentre or bus depot, using a vending machine or at a metroCARD agent. You can then use your metroCARD online account for future recharges or to set up an Auto recharge.
  • All 2-Section metroCARDs with the Auto recharge function enabled will have the function deactivated as of Monday 8 July 2019. To continue using Auto recharge after this date please set up a new Regular Auto recharge.

The South Australian Government has a responsibility to provide services that represent best value for South Australian taxpayers and whilst it is acknowledged that there are passengers who utilise 2-Section fares correctly, there are a significant number who do so fraudulently. By targeting fare evasion Adelaide Metro is able to utilise those funds to make improvements to the public transport network and services.

For further information on the removal of 2-Section fares

  • contact the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108, or
  • by visiting an InfoCentre.
