A new bus is joining the O-Bahn fleet - featuring the landscape and faces of the local Kaurna community

When: From Sunday 10 December 2017

A new bus is joining the O-Bahn fleet - featuring the landscape and faces of the local Kaurna community.

The Indigenous design, produced by Aboriginal landscape architect and visual artist, Paul Herzich, was formally introduced to the public at the launch of the new extended busway on Sunday 10 December.

“Ngadlu wartapurru Kaurna miyurna”

(Pronounced: Nard-loo - warta-pouh-roo - Gar-na -mee-anna)

“We are all Kaurna people

This is an expression of contemporary Aboriginal art that celebrates the diversity of people within the Kaurna community. Today, Kaurna people vary in skin colour, physical features, age, knowledge and skill set.

All Kaurna people bring something different and unique to the community, and are collectively connected to, and responsible for, Kaurna Country.

The bus wrap design features the four main stops along the O-Bahn corridor; being Adelaide, Klemzig, Paradise and Tea Tree Plaza which are connected by meandering journey lines, depicting the O-Bahn Busway route.

Underlying the images of Kaurna people and the O-Bahn Busway are patterns that reflect the Kaurna landscape - from the hills, across the plains and to the sand dunes along the coast.

Traditional Kaurna people, up to and around the time of colonisation, seasonally journeyed through all of these landscapes each winter to summer for thousands of years.

The colours of the artwork reflect various aspects of Kaurna culture and points of reference across the Kaurna landscape, and also includes a reference to the heart of Kaurna Country – the place of the red kangaroo - Tartanya.
