New validators being installed in buses.

Dual Purpose Ticket Validator

Over the coming months the Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram fleet will have new equipment installed in preparation for the new smartcard ticketing system.

At some stage you may encounter a bus fitted with a new yellow metrocard validator.

Existing Metrotickets also work with new validators.

The new equipment is designed to work with existing Metro tickets and will also validate Metrocards when they become operational.

How to use your Metroticket

New dual purpose validators

1) Dual purpose validators

You may see a  validating machine like this located near each boarding door in preparation for the new Metrocard ticketing system. These validators can be used to validate existing Metrotickets.

Don’t forget to validate (stamp) your ticket each time you board a public transport vehicle.

2. Validating your ticket

Insert your ticket into the slot on the magnetic strip toward you  and arrows pointing down.

3. Your ticket is validated (stamped)

Release your ticket and the validating (stamping) machine will take, read and print details of your journey onto your ticket in seconds. The machine will then push the ticket back out for you to take.

4. Transferring to another bus, train or tram

If you need to transfer to another bus, train or tram as a part of your journey, you will need to validate (stamp) your ticket in the validating machine every time you board.

You can download information on new validators and ticket vending and card recharge machines in pdf and text document format.

If the red “X” lights up and

the stamping (validating) machine beeps after you’ve inserted your ticket, don’t be alarmed.
Check that you’ve inserted the ticket the right way with the arrows facing up and pointing towards the stamping (validating) machine. Check that you are travelling on the correct ticket. If the machine still rejects your ticket, refer your problem to the Bus Driver, Rail Passenger Service Assistant or Tram Conductor, depending on your mode of travel.

Buying a ticket on board the train

You can buy Singletrip and Daytrip Metrotickets from the Ticket Vending Machine located on board each train carriage. You must validate your Metroticket immediately after purchase in the validator attached to the Ticket Vending Machine. Ticket Vending Machines only accept coins.
