Free Terrace to Terrace TramTerrace to Terrace FREE Tram service

The new North Terrace Tramline extension, commencing in October is now offering free travel from South Terrace to North Terrace (City West Campus). The new service will make it easier for everyone to enjoy the wonderful things Adelaide has to offer in the city as well as connecting you with the rail services at the Adelaide Railway Station.

 

Tram travel between the two Terraces is FREE

Trams between South Terrace and North Terrace are free at all times departing:

Monday to Friday: 8 am - 5.35 pm every 7.5 minutes on average
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 9 am - 6 pm approximately
every 15 minutes
Other times (to Midnight) approximately every 20 minutes

So get on board, and discover how easy it is to get up and go on the Adelaide Metro.

There are so many attractions and destinations directly on the route, and many more just a short walk away like:

  • Our famous Central Market and the colourful culture of Gouger Street
  • The bustling retail precinct of Rundle Mall
  • Wonderful restaurants and cafes
  • The vibrancy and entertainment of Hindley Street.
  • University of SA City West Campus and the university precinct of Hindley Street West
  • A variety of International Hotels
  • The excitement of SKYCITY Casino
  • The State Library, Museum and Art Gallery situated in the beautifully sculptured North Terrace
  • Our historical heart, the Town Hall and Victoria Square

All these things – and hundreds more – are found between South Terrace and North Terrace (City West Campus). And the best part of all is that it is free.

Free Terrace to Terrace TramThe Terrace to Terrace Tramline runs next to a number of transport links that will take you to all parts of Adelaide:

 

bus iconGrenfell, Currie and King William Streets have buses leaving to all parts of Adelaide, including the O-Bahn service to the North Eastern suburbs and Tea Tree Plaza and the JetBuses to the Airport (J1,J2,J3)

tram iconAdelaide Railway Station on North Terrace provides access to many varied parts of the metropolitan area, including historic Port Adelaide, the beautiful Adelaide Hills, our Southern, beachside suburbs and our vibrant Northern suburbs

99CThe City Loop is a FREE bus service. It links with the Tram at Victoria Square and North Terrace, taking passengers on a loop around the inner city. Its destinations include cosmopolitan Rundle Street East, the stunning Botanic Gardens, University of SA City East Campus and Light Square

The new Tramline replaces the 99B Bee Line bus service.
It covers all of central Adelaide from South Terrace to North Terrace and operates longer hours

Maximum wait for Trams to Glenelg from North Terrace is 20 minutes, Monday to Friday

Taking the Tram to Glenelg is one of Adelaide’s most popular day trips for locals and visitors alike. It also provides a vital commuter service for people who live along its route. It has been an iconic part of Adelaide for many years. The historic seaside suburb of Glenelg and Jetty Road is a lively mixture of shopping, great places to eat, and a busy beach culture.

Your Tram stop numbers will change

The stop numbers between Jetty Road and Victoria Square have been changed. Please refer to the new stop numbers.

Tram travel along Jetty Road is FREE

From stop 15 to stop 17 on Jetty Road Tram travel is free.

To travel from North Terrace to Glenelg

If you want to travel from North Terrace to Glenelg direct, board the Glenelg Tram
Monday to Friday: 7.30 am - 6.30 pm approximately every 15 minutes
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 9 am - 6 pm approximately every 15 minutes
Other times (to midnight) approximately every 20 minutes

Getting off the tram at Glenelg

To travel from North Terrace to South Terrace

If you want to travel on the free Terrace to Terrace Tram service, board either the Glenelg or the South Terrace tram service departing
Monday to Friday:
8 am - 6 pm every 7.5 minutes on average
Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: 9 am - 6 pm approximately every 15 minutes
Other times (to Midnight) approximately every 20 minutes

After South Terrace you’ll need a Metroticket

Don’t forget if you board the Tram between (and including) stop 1 Greenhill Road and stop 14 Glenelg East you’ll need a valid Metroticket for travel. To travel from Brighton Road stop 15 toward the City also requires a valid Metroticket. Failure to travel with a valid Metroticket could incur a fine of up to $180.

Catch the Tram and you could save up to $10,000* a year

Leaving your car at home is not only good for the environment but by using the Adelaide Metro you could save up to $10,000* every year.

Catch the Tram and you could reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions by up to 3.1 tonnes per year!

Catching a Tram means helping the environment because it’s a much cleaner form of transport. The new Tram extension will help make Adelaide an environmentally friendly city by:

  • Attracting more commuters to the service, and therefore reducing the amount of people travelling by car
  • Taking the place of a bus service
  • Encouraging intra-city travellers to use a FREE, reliable and efficient transport option that links all attractions from South Terrace to North Terrace
