Revitalisation of the Noarlunga line - Stage 1 complete

The first stage of the Noarlunga line upgrade – the next step in the South Australian Government’s $2 billion, decade long investment in public transport - was completed ahead of time in early December 2009.

These Stage 1 works upgraded sections of the track in the Ascot Park to Brighton areas, and also at the Goodwood Junction, and involved:

  • removing the existing track
  • upgrading the base layer
  • installing new gauge-convertible concrete sleepers
  • improving stormwater drainage
  • refurbishing / replacing rail.

The upgrade is the first step towards electrification of the Noarlunga line, which is expected to be completed in 2013, providing faster, cleaner and more efficient services for customers.
