 Adelaide Metro advises that at about 8.20am a Tonsley train travelling at low speed and approaching the platform at Adelaide Railway Station derailed.

No passengers or staff were injured and all were transferred safely and efficiently to the station.
Staff are now focusing on removing the train safely and minimising the impact on the broader network.

Please consider bus services as train delays are expected to continue until mid afternoon.
It is anticipated that afternoon peak services will not be disrupted.

Kids 12 and under FREE

Children 12 years of age and under when accompanied by a paying adult with a Grandstand & Trackside ticket will receive FREE entry to the Trackside areas only for the 2012 Adelaide Clipsal 500.

How to get there

The free RAA insurance shuttle bus will operate for the duration of the Clipsal 500 event from Thursday 1 March to Sunday 4 March.

The RAA shuttle bus departs North Terrace stop W1 (opposite Adelaide Railway Station) with a maximum wait of 25 minutes at the following times.

The Victoria Terrace Rail Crossing between Gawler Oval and Gawler Central Station will be closed to all buses from 7pm on Tuesday 21 February until 7pm Friday 24 February.

During this time services will travel via the 492 route only.  Customers of the 492W route west of the railway line will be serviced by a private contractor to assist with travel where required.

The Gawler rail line upgrade between Mawson Interchange and Gawler commenced in September 2011. As works near completion, track upgrade works are being undertaken in the vicinity of Gawler Station.

In order to move heavy equipment safely through this area, it will be necessary to close the pedestrian crossing at the northern end of the station for three days from Thursday 16 February 2012.

A shuttle bus service will be provided to transport pedestrians from one side of the tracks to the other during periods of closure. Rail safety personnel will be available on site to assist pedestrians.

Between the hours of 4.50am and 7.30pm an accessible bus able to accommodate electric wheelchairs or scooters and other large mobility aids will be provided.

Outside these hours, persons requiring accessible transport should advise the supervisor on site or alternatively, please call 8282 7900 in advance for arrangements to be made for accessible transport.

Pedestrians wishing to travel on Adelaide Metro services departing from the Gawler Station car park are advised to allow extra time to cross the line from the western side of the tracks.

Substitute bus services are scheduled to meet passenger trains at Mawson Interchange and will not be re-scheduled during this period.

Due to the closure of King William Street from 6.30 the following road closures and detours will be in place.  

Trams will stop at Adelaide Railway Station and Victoria Square (Pirie Street and Rundle Mall trams stops will not be serviced) every 10 minutes from 6pm.

The nature of the building work associated with the Adelaide Convention Centre redevelopment is such that at any one time two of the Adelaide Railway Station’s nine platforms must be closed to allow for construction works.

To minimise the overall impact of this limited platform space, the decision has been made to provide alternate services for Grange and Tonsley line services for a period of approximately 12 months.

SUBSTITUTE BUSES AVAILABLE
From Monday 27 February 2012 to February 2013 (approximately)

To ensure the redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre is carried out safely and effectively,
the Grange and Tonsley train lines will be modified at the following times from Monday 27 February:

• Tonsley train – full closure, all trains replaced by substitute bus
• Grange train – substitute buses and train shuttles available 5.30am – 7pm Monday to Friday, normal timetable operations after 7pm and all day on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

Train services along the Outer Harbor and Noarlunga lines will operate to a modified timetable to align times with the substitute bus timetables. There will be no impacts at night or on weekends.

Please check the timetable thoroughly to ensure you will arrive at your destination on time.
The substitute services take longer than the regular train service. While trains travel within a dedicated corridor, buses have to travel along public roads and share them with other road users.

This means you may need to catch an earlier train than usual to arrive at your destination on time.

Project overview

Construction work is underway on a $350 million redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The redevelopment will be delivered in two stages. Construction of the first stage, which began in September 2011 expands the existing facility westwards over the railway lines to link with Morphett Street bridge. It will be completed in time to host the World Aquaculture Conference in mid 2014.

Stage two, replacing the existing plenary building is scheduled for completion in mid 2017.

A redeveloped Adelaide Convention Centre will create one of the largest, most flexible and up-to-date meeting places in the world.

Key features will include:

• A striking built form shape, roof structures and facade inspired by the South Australian landscape, particularly the layers and colours of the cliffs, rock formations and escarpments of the Flinders Ranges.
• Three distinct and individually iconic buildings capable of hosting one single major event or three separate events concurrently.
