Below is a list of frequently asked questions about Adelaide Metro public transport

1. How do I validate my ticket?
Every Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram service has a validating machine just inside the boarding doors that you need to insert your ticket into to validate or stamp it.
2. At what age are children required to pay for a ticket? Up to what age can they travel on a Student fare ticket?
Accompanied children under the age of 5 travel free of charge. On weekends and public holidays, two children aged between 5 and 14 years of age can travel FREE with an adult, parent or guardian travelling on a Daytrip ticket.
There is no set age for Student fare tickets, however conditions do apply to travel with a student concession card. Student fare tickets apply to Full Time students of all ages travelling with a South Australia Government approved concession card.
3. What is the difference between an Interpeak ticket and an All Times ticket?
Interpeak tickets are for use when travelling between 9.01am and 3 pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. All Times tickets are valid at any time of any day.
What are the costs of each?
4. Can you use a Multitrip ticket on any Adelaide Metro bus, train or tram?
Multitrip tickets can be used on every Adelaide Metro public transport service.
5. Can you use a Metroticket when travelling on After Midnight or Footy Express services?
After Midnight bus services are Metroticket services so use your Multitrip or buy your ticket on board. Footy Express services have special Premium tickets that can be purchased from the driver or ticket sellers at selected bus stops on the day of travel.
6. How long are Singletrip tickets valid for? Can I use them on more than one bus, train or tram?
An All Times Singletrip ticket is valid for two hours after its initial validation and can be used to transfer between any Adelaide Metro bus, train or tram within this two-hour time period. A Two Section Singletrip ticket is valid for one trip only and cannot be used to transfer between services.
7. How long is a Daytrip valid for?
A Daytrip ticket allows unlimited travel and transfers on the Adelaide Metro public transport system from the time of first validation until 4.30 am in the morning.
8. Where can I find information on which ticket to buy, which ticket is best suited to me and what my options are?
There are many different types of tickets available to suit many different individual requirements. Find the one that best suits your needs.
9. What do I need to be eligible for concession? Are part time students and the unemployed eligible to travel on concession?
All acceptable South Australian Government approved concessions cards are available to view to ensure you are eligible for concession on board Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services.
10. What tickets are available on board the bus, train and tram?
Only some tickets are available on board buses, trains and trams. Multitrip tickets are not available for purchase on board buses, trains or trams. Make sure you can purchase the ticket you need on board your required service and that you have the correct change required to do so, or as close as possible. Train vending machines only accept coins; they will not accept 5c coins or notes.
11. How do I find out where to buy my Metroticket?
Metrotickets are available for purchase from over 700 locations across metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia, including delis, newsagencies, and Post Offices.
12. Can I use my Metroticket on all Adelaide Metro services? How far can I travel on my Metroticket?
Metrotickets can be used on all Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram services. To see how far the Adelaide Metro public transport system travels, view our Metromap.
13. What happens when my ticket doesn't work? Do I need to buy a new one?
If you ticket has failed to stamp (validate) and has been marked "invalid" or "faulty" by the driver or other authorised transport employee, you may obtain a replacement ticket from numerous locations.
14. What is a Two Section ticket? How far is Two Sections?
A Two Section ticket allows you to travel two sections as indicated on each timetable route map. Two Sections is approximately 3 kilometres.
15. Where do express buses pick up and set down?
This depends on the service you are catching. Some services travel express for their entire route at certain times of the day, others only travel sections of their route as express services. Have a look at the specific timetable for the details on the service you wish to catch.
16. How do I find out which bus to catch and where to catch it?
You can view the entire Adelaide Metro system through the Metromap or type in the suburb you wish to travel from and where you wish to end up into our Trip Planner for fully automated public transport advice or use the Personalised Journey Planner for an individual journey plan we can mail or email direct to you! The City maps show you where to board your service in the City.
17. How can I find out if a particular service is wheelchair accessible?
Adelaide Metro has many accessible services and more are being added to the fleet all the time. To find out if a service is fully accessible, contact the relevant service provider that runs the service you wish to catch or contact the Adelaide Metro or Toll Free on 1800 182 160.
18. What is a Go Zone? How do I find out where the Go Zones are?
Go Zones offer you the ease of services every 15 minutes between 7.30 am and 6.30 pm Monday to Friday and every 30 minutes at night and on weekends and public holidays along sections of specific routes. Adelaide Metro has 23 Go Zones with one MEGA Go Zone. Is there one near you?
19. Are car parks available near bus stops and tram and train stations?
Many bus stops and train and tram stations serviced by Adelaide Metro routes have ample parking for your needs, with many of these car parks being Park 'n' Ride facilities.
20. What is a Park 'n' Ride?
A Park 'n' Ride is a sealed, fully illuminated car park with all weather bus shelters. There are numerous Park 'n' Rides located throughout metropolitan Adelaide where you can simply park your car and board your required service, with more Park 'n' Rides being added over the next few years.
21. Can I take luggage on the bus, train or tram?
If space permits, you are able to take luggage on board buses, trains and trams.
22. Can I take my pet on the bus, train or tram?
All accredited assistance animals accompanying a person with a disability (eg: Guide Dogs, hearing dogs and other accredited assistance animals) are welcome to travel on all public transport including Adelaide Metro buses, trains and trams as well as taxis. Other animals may be carried at the discretion of an authorised officer who could be a bus driver, Adelaide Metro staff member or taxi driver. If the animal is not an accredited assistance animal it is recommended that you contact the service provider to discuss their policy and regulations on the carriage of animals.
Small animals contained in secure carry cages can be carried on public transport if they do not present a risk to other passengers. If the animal is not dangerous, offensive or large; if it is in a suitable container with a waterproof bottom and will be kept by the passenger on their lap, then consideration will be made in allowing travel by the authorised officer. Agreement to travel would depend on the circumstances of each individual case.
Adelaide Metro service providers include Torrens Transit (8350 4433), SouthLink (8186 2888), Transitplus (8339 7544), TransAdelaide Trains (8218 2200) and TransAdelaide Trams (8294 6587). If you are unsure who is the service provider you can call the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108.
If you are intending to travel in a taxi with your pet, carriage is at the discretion of the driver. You should try to book the vehicle beforehand and inform the operator that you are travelling with an animal. If your pet soils the taxi then a fee of $66 will apply in addition to the fare.
23. Am I permitted to eat on board Adelaide Metro buses, trains or trams?
The consumption of food and drinks is not permitted on board any bus, train or tram in the Adelaide Metro public transport system.
24. Can I take a pram/pusher or shopping trolley on the bus, train or tram?
Prams/pushers are allowed on board buses and trams as long as they are folded down and stored in their designated areas. Prams/pushers are allowed on board all trains. Personal shopping trolleys are permitted on board buses, trains and trams however supermarket trolleys are not.
25. Can I get a map of the Adelaide Metro public transport system?

26. Can I take my bicycle or surfboard on board the bus or tram?
Bicycles and surfboards are not allowed on board buses or trams.
27. Can I take my bicycle or surfboard on board the train? What ticket do I need for my bicycle or surfboard?
Bikes travel free on trains between 9.01 am and 3 pm and after 6 pm Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, and all day on weekends and public holidays. A concession ticket is required for a bicycle travelling on board a train outside of these times.
Different Adelaide Metro railcars will accommodate different numbers of bicycles on board. These railcars have advisory stickers at the door to notify passengers of how many bicycles are permitted per carriage. Advisory stickers are also available at the doors of railcars to suggest the best entrance to board the train with a bicycle.
Surfboards are permitted on board trains only if space permits and with the separate payment of a concession ticket at all times.
28. You've ridden your bike to your bus, train or tram station. What do you do with it now?
Adelaide Metro has Bike Lockers installed at many locations throughout its public transport system. For a refundable annual fee you can hire a bike locker to securely store your bike while you travel to your destination on board Adelaide Metro public transport.
29. If I lose something on the bus, train or tram, how can I find out about getting it back?
Contact the service providers of the relevant route (a full list of routes operated by each service provider is available on the "Service Providers" page). They may have it in their Lost Property Department. If you aren't sure which service provider operates the required route, call the Adelaide Metro or Toll Free on 1800 182 160 and they'll be able to help.
30. What is an "F" bus? What does the "F" mean?
Some long bus routes have a letter 'F' shown after their route number (eg. 195F). These buses provide a faster service as they stop at less bus stops.
31. What are Through-City Routes?
Through-City Routes are simply buses that travel from one side of Adelaide to the other, changing their route number as they approach the CBD so you may not have to transfer in the City.
32. What is the O-Bahn Guided Busway?
The Adelaide O-Bahn Guided Busway is the world's longest and fastest guided busway, offering users an unparalleled level of speed, comfort and safety.
33. What is a Safer Station?
Adelaide Metro has introduced numerous Safer Stations at metropolitan railway stations which provide better personal security to users through improved lighting, video surveillance, emergency help phones and declared areas that can control access to and from railcars.
34. What is a Roam Zone? How does it work?
From 7pm until last service, new Roam Zone buses will take you to your door, or as close as street conditions allow, 7 days a week. Roam Zone buses currently operate in the Hallett Cove, Sheidow Park and Trott Park area and the Golden Grove, Greenwith and Petworth Lakes area.
35. How do I get to the Airport?
Catch the JetBus services 7 days a week, linking the Airport and City through to the North Eastern suburbs and Elizabeth with a limited stop route that allows connections to most Adelaide Metro services in the City.
36. Where do I get information on country bus services?
The Bus SA website contains relevant information for regional South Australian travel.
