Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure
The responsibility for transport in South Australia lies within the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. Included in the Department are the Office for Local Government, Planning SA, Transport SA, Public Transport Services Division and TransAdelaide, (which is responsible for the provision of Adelaide’s rail network).

Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, Public Transport Services Division
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure, Public Transport Services Division was established on the 1st January 2004 as an amendment to the Passenger Transport Act (1994) to oversee all land based passenger transport in South Australia. This includes all forms of land transport that carry passengers for reward including buses, trains, trams, hire cars, taxis and horse drawn vehicles.

Legislation
The Passenger Transport Act (1994) requires the Public Transport Services Division to oversee the creation and maintenance of an integrated network of passenger transport services involving all modes of passenger transport by public passenger vehicles within the State.
