Project overviewarrow

Renewal of the Belair line (between Goodwood and Belair) is one of the first stages of the State Government’s $2 billion investment in public transport to be rolled out over a ten year period.

The project involved a complete reconstruction of the Belair line. The following items were completed:

  • upgrading the track formation (base-layer) and ballast (rock material under the sleepers)
  • improving drainage
  • improving track geometry and alignment with the existing rail corridor
  • installing over 20,000 new long-life, gauge convertible concrete sleepers and new rail.

This renewal provides reliable and comfortable services for commuters well into the future.

Construction worksarrow

The works were undertaken by a joint venture involving John Holland Rail and Coleman Rail. A key criterion for selecting this team was their demonstrated ability to undertake the construction works in the safest and most efficient manner.
