| Taxis, Access Taxis and Small Passenger Vehicles - all part of the passenger transport system |
The passenger transport system is more than buses, trains and trams with over 8 million trips in metropolitan Adelaide made in taxis, Access Taxis and Small Passenger Vehicles. They are an important part of the Public Transport Division's work and an important part of our community.
Taxis
Taxis provide an important service for people who do not have access to private car transport or who do not use a car.
The Government, in recognition of the taxi industry's important role, established the Premier's Taxi Council. The Public Transport Division will provide secretariat support to the Council.
The Council's membership includes representatives of the central booking services, taxi drivers, operators, tourism and consumers advocates.

Access Taxis
Access Taxis provide a valuable service to people with disabilities and make a significant contribution to social equity in our community. Access Taxi licences are taxi licences with special conditions that require the operator to give a priority service to people with mobility difficulties.

Small Passenger Vehicles
Small Passenger Vehicles are also an integral part of the passenger transport system. Passenger vehicles with up to 12 seats (driver plus 11 passengers) are small passenger vehicles. They include what are often referred to as hire cars or chauffeured vehicles.
