Travel free with a Seniors card

The South Australian Seniors Card also serves as a Seniors metrocard, providing card holder’s public transport fare concessions, and free travel on all Adelaide Metro public transport services;

  • Weekdays before 7:01am, between 9.01am to 3:00pm and after 7:00pm
  • All day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays

Metrocard for South Australian Seniors Card holders

New Seniors Metrocard

The South Australian Seniors Card which displays the Adelaide Metro logo is also a metrocard. 
You can use this Seniors Card to travel on the public transport free during the free travel times. Green Seniors metrotickets are no longer issued.
You can also add value ($) to your Seniors Card for trips outside the free travel time. Any value ($) you add is protected if your Seniors card is accidentally lost or stolen.

Your Seniors Card privacy options

If you apply for a New Seniors Card details held by the Seniors Card Unit which include Name, Address, Date of Birth and Email address may be provided to us (The Department for Planning Transport and Infrastructure). This allows us to provide you with a Seniors Card metrocard and give you access to the full range of Seniors Card metrocard services relating to your travel.

You can change your privacy options at any time and anonymise your Seniors Card metrocard removing your Name and Address details.  If you choose this anonymous option we cannot give you access to the full range of metrocard services available.

How to use your Seniors Card on public transport

Just touch your Seniors Card to the validator when you board before 7:01am, between 9.01am to 3:00pm and after 7:00pm weekdays or all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays for a free trip.

You’ll also need to touch your Seniors Card on the gates when entering and exiting Adelaide Railway Station.

Travelling outside these times
Adelaide Metro InfoCentre

If you travel between 7:01am to 9:00am and 3:01pm to 7:00pm weekdays simply add value ($) to your

Seniors Card or purchase a Concession singletrip metroticket onboard a bus, train or tram.

You can recharge your Seniors Card at any Adelaide Metro InfoCentre or metrocard agent or using any ticket vending machine.

Interstate Seniors Card holders

Anyone who holds a valid Seniors Card from any Australian State or Territory is eligible for FREE Adelaide Metro public transport Monday to Friday before 7:01am, between 9:01 to 3:00pm, and after 7:00pm and all day Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

Simply visit Adelaide Airport’s Information Booth, WHSmith Express at the ground floor arrivals area or an Adelaide Metro InfoCentre, show your interstate Seniors Card and you will be issued with a temporary metroticket which will be valid for a maximum of 14 days.
